Nelson County High School Sports 2009

North Dakota high school sports have competition at two levels. Class A includes all high schools with enrollments of 400 or more students. Class B includes all of the rest. In Class B there are eight regions each of which has two districts. Over the past two decades many of the smaller class B schools have consolidated, joining one or more high schools into one larger regional school. Dakota Praire is an example of this. Other small schools have remained open, but have consolidated the athletic programs into co-ops. This year Adams-Edmore is joining Lakota High school and competing as one of these co-ops.

Not all schools compete in all sports. Because of this, conference and regional configurations are different in different sports. Dakota Prairie's basketball and baseball teams compete in different regions.
